I knew that one day I would become fully entrenched in becoming an Oregonian, that day came nearer yesterday. I realize I still have tons to learn and much to still fall in love with but I did take a giant step forward to being one with my new home state. It all seems simple but to actually become an Oregonian takes time and effort.
I had a great friend cook breakfast for dinner, this is not that unusual but what we had was a bit out of the ordinary for a guy who spent most of his life in the fly over states or in Southern California. First off we had eggs from the chickens that were running around. They look like ordinary birds but the egg shells are green. Next up were the biscuits with blueberry jam and then we had big hunks of elk meat.
I have to say that I am now a big fan of elk meat. I guess that I will have to grab a bow and go tromping through the woods looking for my next meal. This is part of Oregon that I really never thought about while I was prepping to move here, it is a part though that I have really enjoyed. What Okie would not dream of eating fresh salmon, oysters, bear and elk meat.
and now a commercial from my new home town.... posted originally by Rachel Pearson
We are glad you made Florence your home.

Sorry to burst at least part of your bubble cuz but, you spent way too much time growing up in "The City". Out in the country in Oklahoma I've eaten elk, it's in the northeastern part of the state. We also have "free range chickens" that lay brown, yellow, speckled & yes even green eggs. Although, you do have me on the salmon, oysters & bear meat. We do have black bear here but they're protected. See what you miss by not coming to see me? Sheila
ReplyDeletelol.... I guess I am a bit of a "city slicker" in some areas. I do miss you Sheila.
ReplyDeleteI never ate elk or bear but I did have a cow once.
